Polish Alien Henry Kernkraut holds his son, Yankel, 2 months, as he reads a notice warning that under the McCarran Act all aliens must register between January 1 and 31 or face possible deportation. With him at the headquarters of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society is his wife, Pauline. HIAS has established a special alien registration center in New York to assist the thousands of non-citizens of all faiths and nationalities who must make their reports to the government.
