Gen. Alfred M. Gruenther, Chief of Staff at SHAPE headquarters near Paris, is the center of speculation today among fellow officers who think he is headed for a top military job in the upcoming Eisenhower administration. Ike picked Gen. Gruenther, a top ranking administrator, as his chief of staff when the Allied headquarters was first set up two years ago. The four-starred general has continued in the job under Ike's successor, Gen. Matthew B. Ridgway.
