Description

Sen. Harry F. Byrd poses with Pam, a honey-colored Cocker Spaniel and the latest in line of dogs he kept as companions in his Capitol office. He recalls that as Governor of Virginia he had a black and white Fox Terrier but during most of his 30 years in the Senate he had Cocker Spaniels -- Nicotine, Inky, Happy, Candy and now Pam. Candy, about 12 years old, is ailing now and is kept at the senator's estate, Rosemont Berryville, Va.
