NEW YORK -- CONFER A JOINT BASEBALL MEETING -- Baseball Commissioner William D. Eckert, center, confers with National League President Warren Giles, left, and his American League counterpart, Joe Cronin, today at a meeting of club owners at New York's Roosevelt Hotel. The meeting, called by Eckert and closed to the press, was expected to involved discussions looking toward a close relationship between the United States and Japan, perhaps a proposal that some major leaguers go there for post-season games with Japanese clubs.
