1968 Press Photo Soldiers' wives look at Flame of Hope at the Spokane Coliseum

Mrs. Galileo F. Bossio (left), whose husband is missing in action in Vietnam and Mrs. Wesley D. Scmerman, whose husband is a prisoner of war, look at Flame of Hope, which went into use today in front of the Spokane Coliseum. Valley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435, which established the flame to burn until all American POWs are released, today received a telegraph from Vice President Spiro T. Agnew saying the flame will be a continual reminder "that we must not forget our fighting men who became prisoner or missing" and expressing the hope for their "safe and early return."
