1939 Press Photo General Foch Led the French Army Through German Trenches

Led by General Foch, the French army today broke through the first line of German Trenches in the Argonne Region, south of varennes inflicting heavy losses to the invading Germans and captured scores of prisoners. This was the report of the day from General headquarters, Dec. 24, 1914. A battalion of French troops are pictured above, advancing through a shell-torn and deserted town in the Argonne Region against their foe.
