20,000 cheering GIs rallied at an orderly mass meeting January 7th, their second day of protests against a War Department slow down in redeployment and booed a radio broadcast by Lt Gen WD Styer who promised that regular Army troops would take over garrisoning of the Philippines and Okinawa as rapidly as possible.
