1939 Press Photo Captain Robert Allen appears before Federal Marine Committee

Captain Robert Allen, skipper of the S.S. Acadia, is seen as he testified today, before the Federal Marine Investigating Board, which is holding a hearing aboard the vessel at her New York Pier. The Commission is investigating reports of alleged misconduct on the part of the crew of the Acadia during its last Trans'Atlantic crossing. The ship was chartered by the United States Lines to bring 280 passengers to the United States from war torn Europe. It is reported that the passengers described the crossing as a nightmare."
