1957 Press Photo People that will participate in the William Girard's Trial

These four figures will play key roles when Army Specialist 3/C William S. Girard goes on trial in a Japanese woman on an Army firing range last January. They are Yuzo Kawachi, who will head a panel of three judges who will decide Girard's fate; Major Stanley Levin (top right) Girard's Army legal adviser: Itsuro Hayashi (ower left), the soldier's Japanese attorney who will direct the defense and Kanawe Watanabe, chief prosecutor. Girard hopes to win acquittal or suspended sentence on grounds the killing was an accident while he was on guard duty. the indictment charges he lured the woman onto the range and then fired an empty shell casing from his rifle grenade launcher toward her.
