1936 Press Photo Marion Martin testifies about hospital conditions in New York

Miss Marion Martin city nurse told the Citys Board of Estimate today that atrocious conditions are menacing the lives of patients in the citys hospitals. Miss Martin arraigned the entire nursing system of the city in unmeasured terms and she brought the board to its feet when she charged that 19 infants had died in Harlem Hospital during an epidemic of dysentery. When asked if they died of neglect she replied who can tell they died. Miss Martin was pictured as she told her story to the board.
