1937 Press Photo Carol Lathrop returns aboard Liner Tayio Maru

Carol Lathrop, above, reported beaten by Japanese in Peiping, is the daughter of the late Commander Patrick T. Moore Lathrop, U.S.N.m who died in 1919 while attached to the American Naval Mission in Brazil. Her mother is employed in the Library division of the Navy Department at Washington, D.C. According to Mrs. Lathrop, Carol, who is 16, accompanied her to China last February when Mr.s Lathrop returned to the United States in May, her daughter remained behind to visit another daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Hall Cornell, wife of Captain Cornell of the Marine Corps. Miss Lathrop is shown aboard the Liner Taiyo Maru when she left here for the orient early this spring. ,
