1942 Press Photo Alvin J. Steinkopf AP Foreign Correspondent exchanged for Nazi

Alvin J. Steinkopf a Veteran Associated Press Foreign Correspondent who among the 74 Americans who arrived in Lisbon May 16 from Germany. They were exchanged for Nazi Diplomats and Newsmen. In a dispatch sent upon his arrival, Steinkopf wrote of a "Spiritually Prostrate" France through which he journeyed to Portugal. A native of Minnesota. Steinkopf a former Associated Pres Bureau of Chief in Vienna and Budapest was assigned to Germany for the past two and a half years.
