Thirteen/WNET's American Masters examines the enduring legacy of a broadcast pioneer with Jack Paar: As I Was Saying... Premiering nationwide on PBS. This two hour program looks at the host of The Tonight Show and The Jack Paar Show who virtually created the late night talk show format. Paar conversed with such politicians as Presidential candidate John F. Kennedy, above, and helped launch the careers of some of today's most legendary entertainers. The program includes kine-scopes of live performances not seen since their original television broadcasts more than 35 years ago. Interviews include Bill Cosby, Hugh Downs and Paar himself. The program is a co-production of Thirteen/WNET and EagleVision, Inc.
