House Democrats chose Rep. John McCormack (D-Mass) (left) to be floor leader and Rep. Patrick Boland (D-Pa) (right) to be party whip at their caucus Jan. 2 preliminary to the opening of the 77th Congress Friday (Jan.3). Rep. Sam Rayburn (D-Tex) (center) was renominated as the Democratic candidate for speaker and is certain of reelection when the House convenes.
