Description

The horse-drawn hearse, carrying the body of Italy's famed postwar premier, Alcide de Gasperi, passes the large Fountain of Naiads in the Piazza Esedra during funeral services for the Italian statesman. A long, silent procession accompanied de Gasperi to his final resting place in the ancient Basilica of San Lorenzo as the bells of Rome tolled for the man, who more than any other man, saved Italy from Communism.
