1978 Press Photo Limestone Rock Arizona-Sonora Desert M - RSA34297

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
This hole in the limestone rock (center foreground), snuggled in a wash at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, is the entrance to the world-famous museum's newest attraction--The Stephen H. Congden Earth Sciences Center. Inside, visitors travel through a young, growing, wet limestone cave and an old, dying, dry one before returning to reality by means of a 67-foot time tunnel which marks the eras of the earth's five billion years. The return to reality is very literal, for neither the caves nor the entrance are real, but man made.

Photo measures 10.25 x 8 inches. Photo is dated 10-10-1978.
