Description
Indians - Navajo. Ella Deal, 69, holds her grandson on her lap and is surrounded by her other family members during a recent tribal meeting held in Cactus Valley, Arizona. Mrs. Deal represents one of perhaps 100 Navajo families who will not have to move physically during the proposed resettlement of the Navajos in this area. Yet because her late husband was a Hopi and her second a Navajo, her family will be separated. Says her son, "My step-sisters, my aunts, my uncles are Hopis. Must I climb a fence to visit them?"

Photo is dated 1981.

Photo measures 10 x 8 inches.
