Description
Flight Engineer Georgy Grechko, foreground, and Lt. Colonel Alexel Gubarev wave wave prior to boarding the Soyuz 17 spacecraft early Saturday. The two rookie Soviet cosmonauts guided the spacecraft into earth orbit and toward a possible docking with the Salyut 4 space lab launched 16 days ago. Soyuz 17 took off shortly after midnight from Baikonur Space Center in Central Asia.
