1940 Press Photo New York Stowaway Family Arrives on Italian Liner Vulcania NYC

Accompanied by an attendant of the Italian Lines, Mrs Margaret La Rose, Madden Alvarez carries her infant daughter, Marguerita and is followed by her two other children, Carlos & Maria, as they leave the Italian Liner Vulcania, on which they stowed away at Lisbon, Portugal. The family slept on the floor of a cabin occupied by another family. Their presence was unknown to the officers of the ship until the liner was nearly to New York Harbor. Being an American citizen, Mrs Alvarez and her children were allowed to land. The family will go to Philadelphia. Mrs Alvarez left her husband and 2 other children in Spain.
