1986 Press Photo Rita Doro of the Green Lake Special Olympics basketball team

Every photo in our collection is an original vintage print from a newspaper or news service archive, not a digital image. Please see our FAQ for more information.

Description
After playing the entire game, Doro took a break to savor the victory and bask in the joy of her success. --- Rita Doro is not tall. She doesn't have the skills of a National Basketball Association player and can't slam dunk. But don't tell her she isn't a heroine on the basketball court. Don't tell her she doesn't have the heart to be a winner. For four quarters Friday, Doro, 38, was a blue-chip player as she sparked her Green Lake Special Olympics basketball team to a 30-29 victory in the Wisconsin Special Olympics Indoor Sports Tournament. Dwarfed by other players, the Olympian from Berlin, Wisconsin, played the entire game, cheering, scoring and encouraging her team to victory.

Photo measures 11 x 7.75 inches. Photo is dated 02-01-1986.
