Description
The Chemex Corp. president, Phillip Brinkman, led the way Thursday as his company began cleanup operations after a 2,800 gallon petroleum spill in the Menomonee River. Brinkman drove an air board to direct the oil slick to specific areas where it was sucked into vacuum trucks. The Coast Guard started the cleanup Wednesday night after petroleum escaped from a fuel tank at Schwerman Trucking Co., 2463 W. St. Paul Ave. The Coast Guard put down two still guard booms (in background) to contain the slick between the 13th St. bridge and the 27th St. viaduct. The vacuum trucks collected about 300 gallons Wednesday night. Chemex, of 9525 S. 60th St., Franklin, was hired by the trucking firm. A spokesman for the Coast Guard said the cleanup would run into Friday.
