The Uros, who belong to one of Peru's most angient races, are known the world over for the rattan boats, (totora) they build, for sail ing in the Titicaca lake, on the Peruvian Andean Plateau, 3,815 kilometers above the sea level. Confined to the Titicaca surroundings before the Spanish conquest, the Uros devised an ingenious method of sowing on floating islands built of earth-covered rattan where They sailed with theth families and animals looking for better glimates. This milenary people who live mainly on fish are on their may to disappear because of disease and fundamentally because of continued undernourishment whigh has caused their womene'"s fertility to drop, thus provoking their almost total extinction..
