Multi-storey car park approved.: The City Corporation announced today the approval of Britain's first multi-storey push-button car park-and work will start within the next fortnight on a site near Southwark Bridge, City. The building, which is called a Zidpark, and expected to completed in 1961 - will have room for 500 cars - of which 464 will be conveyed to the upper floors by an all-electric system of 16 lifts. It is part of a project between Upper Thames-street and the river, which includes a seven-story office block and a 12-foot wide public riverside walk. Photo shows view of a model of the Zidpark. The walls have been removed to show how the cars will be stacked.
