Harwell teaches the world's scientists about the atom: Students from many countries and industries attend the reactor school - Highly qualified scientists from a member of different industries and from a variety of foreign countries, as well as less-technically qualified senior executives are being sent to "school' for a £250 18-weeks (or a shorter one of nine days costing £50) at the Reactor School at the Atomic Energy Establishment, Harwell.
In classrooms of the school these leaders of tomorrows atomic-powered industry and atomic laboratories study all that Harwells' own scientists can teach them, subject to a very few security bans. Students have so far attended from India, Pakistan, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Holland, Japan and Commonwealth countries. About 60 students attend each Standard Course, of which four are to be held in 1958 instead of the three held in 1957 because of their popularity.
The Laboratories used by the students are filled with Wellsian apparatus and specially-constructed training reactors and complete control simulators. As part of their course, students are taken through the "closed doors' to the inner sanctums of Harwell and see the full-scale reactors at work.
