Description
Lonrho Chief Says `130,000 For Duncan Sandys Was Fair: Mr. Roland "Tiny" Rowland, chief executive and managing director of Lonrho, said yesterday his decision to pay Mr. Duncan Sandys `130,000 compensation for the ending of the former Cabinet Minister's consultancy agreement with the company was taken after it had been carefully considered by himself, Mr. Angus Ogilvy, then a director, and the then chairman of Lonrho, Mr. Allan Ball. In evidence read to the High Court in the case in which he is fighting a move by eight fellow directors to sack him, Mr. Rowland stated that Mr. Ogilvy, Princess Alexandra's husband, was one of those who decided on the amount. "We decided that `130,000 would be fair and reasonable", stated Mr. Rowland. Photo shows Mr. Roland "Tiny" Rowland, 56, chief executive and managing director of Lonrho, who gave evidence yesterday about his decision to pay the `130,000 compensation to Mr. Duncan Sandya.
