Description
Piglets with the Iron age look.: A group of archaeologists reconstructing an Iron Age farm settlement at Petersfield, Hampshire, wanted to stock it with piglets with the black and ginger characteristics of Iron Age domestic pets. So they approached farmer Joe Henson at his farm near Guiting Power, Gloucestershire. He already had a primitive-type Tamworth ginger sow, and London Zoo had a wild boars in captivity, which they gave him, and the result of the match is a litter of seven ginger coloured piglets all with the necessary black stripes. Says farmer Joe Henson; I am certain we now have the only litter of its kind in the world. Photo shows top picture: The Tamworth ginger sow, with her 'Iron Age' piglets: Bottom picture: Feeding time for the seven Iron Age piglets.
