Earl Of Cromer To Be Britain's New Ambassador in Washington; The Earl of Cromer, former governor of the Bank of England, is to be Britain's next Ambassador to the United States. He takes over the ~14,000-a-year post from Mr. John freeman, early in the New year. Lord Cromer, who is 52, was Governor of the Bank between 1961 and 1966.
