Historic meeting in Ceylon.; The members of Ceylon's House of Representatives have formed themselves into a Constituent Assembly to draft, adopt and operate a new Constitution which will declare Ceylon to be a free, sovereign and independent Republic pleged to realise the objectives of a socialist democracy. The Constituent Assembly was formed on a resolution moved by the Prime Minister. Mrs. Sirimave Bandaranaike, at a special meeting of the House of Representative convened by the Prime Minister herself, at "Navarangahala", the auditorium of the Royal Junior School, Colombo. Photo shows Mrs. Bandaranaike being accorded a traditional welcome as she arrives for the historic meeting. She is flanked by Dr. Colvin R. de Silva (left), Minister of Constitutional Affairs, and Mrs. Felix R. Dias Bandaranaike (right), Minister of Public Administration, Local Government and Home Affairs.
