90th Anniversary Of Gustav Hertz: 90 years ago, on July 22nd 1887, the physicist Gustav Hertz (Gustav Hertz-our picture) was born in Hamburg. Professor Dr. phil. Hertz worked at the universities of halle and berlin and joined the industry in 1934, e.g. as director of the research laboratory of the Siemens enterprise. Since 1945 he was active in the Soviet Union. Together with J. Franck Gustav hertz investigated the stimulation of atoms by means of electrona and was awarded the nobel Prize for physics (together with Franck) in 1925 for his research in this field Later on he developed a technique for the diffusion, separation of isotopes which was applied successfully in the United states for the production of uranium 235. The world-famous physicist who was also holder of a Stalin Prize, died two years ago in Berlin (on October 30th, 1975).
