Schoolboys and girls leave Victoria for Oberammergau and the Tyrol: Twentysix schoolboys, and girls from Port Talbot Grammar School, Glamorgan, South Wales, left Victoria Station this morning on a School Travel service holiday in the Austrian Tyrol and Oberammergan. Most of the children are aged between 13 and 15, and for many of them it is their first trip abroad. A young Austrian student from Innsbruck University, Helmut Wachter, will act as guide to the children when they arrive at Telfes in the Tyrol. They will see every aspect of local life, and in the evenings villagers will take part in folk songs and dances at the inn where they will stay. Arrangements have been made for them to meet Austrian schoolboys and girls also on holiday in the mountains. At Oberammergau they will see the Passion Play and stay in the homes of the villagers, all of whom take part in the drama. They will return to England on July 29th. Photo shows some of the children weaving goodbye when they left Victoria Station this morning. They are L to R: (front) William Kelly, 12; William Hanford, 11. (Back) Jalna Harry, 12; Avril Perkins, 12, and Gill Evans, 12.
