1966 Press Photo President Nyerere Is Sculpted By British Sculptress Clara Quien

BRITISH-BORN SCULPTRESS COMPLETES BUST OF PRESIDENT NYERERE: The well-known British born sculptress, Mrs. Clara Quien (she was born in Bromley, Kent), has just completed a slightly larger than life-size bust of President Nyerere of Tanzania. The bust is being taken to Italy where several replicas will be made in bronze. Mrs. Quien completed the bust in seven sittings, each lasting an hour with President Nyerere, at State House, Dar es Salaam. The bronze bust will be sold and the money used for charitable purposes. Now in her fifties, Mrs. Quien started modelling in China at the age of two. She has also sculptured India's Gandhi. Pandit Nehru and his daughter, Indira (now Prime Minister), Lord Mountbatten and many others including the Shah of Persia. Photo Shows:_ President Nyerere at the last sittings at the State House, Der es Salaam, whilst Mrs. Clara Quien gives the final touches to the plaster cast which she has completed.
