London's Atom Fortress Is Ready Vital Centre Prepared For Emergency - In Southwark: The new Atom Bomb Proof fortress one of 100 'atomic' C.D. headquarters in London is now ready for use in Southwark. AT least a thousand tons of earth has to be moved for pumps for the construction of the centre. A diesel generator pumps filtered air into an "operations room" and provides emergency heat and light. Nothing should budge the control center which has an area below ground level of over 2,000 square feet with its own telephone exchange, mass facilities; toilets and rest rooms for weary rescue teams. The 'fortress' has been equipped with a recreation centre. In changer is Mr. Hugh Pierce who has moved into new prefab offices and training center built on top of the underground centre - and in case of emergency the teams move below to continue emergency operations unhampered. Photo Shows Scene inside the fortress - as Mr. L.M. Sheehan lectures on the organisation of C.D. with the aid of a floor map.
