The first official occupants of "Little Chequers" - the name given to "Dorneywood" - the 45 room Queen Anne Mansion left by the late Lord Courtauld Thomson to the nation is Sir Anthony Even the Foreign Secretary and Lady Eden.. Dorneywood is a country house standing in 200 acres of land near Burnham Beeches, Bucks., and was left to the nation as a "Lesser Chequers" for the use of the Prime Minister or a Minister of the Crown.. The house is just as Lord Courtauld-Thomson left it - and is furnished mainly by 18th. century pieces - and containing many collectors pieces of Chippendale..
