Description
Bride keeps her guests waiting, 10,000 feet above the church: A bride kept eight wedding guests waiting for half-an-hour on Monday, in a place circling 10,000 ft. above the church where she was to be married. The guests sky-divers from the Parachute Regiment had planned to welcome the bride by dropping into a field near the Church with a bottle of champagne for her half-an-hour late, she was hurrying into the church and caught only a fleeting glimpse of them. The paratroops' welcome had been carefully planned for Freda Allen, a 20 year old croupier from Washington,Co. Durham, who married Marshall Power, a 26 year old lance-corporal in the Parachute Regiment. The sky-divers arrived above the church 45 minutes before the wedding and started circling, waiting for the order to drop. The bride and groom were due at the field 15 minutes later but they did not arrive and, with their plane's fuel reserve getting dangerously low, the parachutists were ordered to jump. By the time they got to Washington's they formed a guard of honour for the couple. Tand the bride kissed all eight of them outside the church to put everything right. Photo shows the bride gets a lift from the parachutists after her wedding.
