The milke man-made island 90-meters in diameter built in airake bay, six kilometers off the Japanese coast in the Fukuoka prefecture is nearing completion. started in October 1970.by the Mitsui construction co, the man-made island will be utilized as a vertical ventilation base to undersea mining 513 meters deep, through a shaft 6 meters in diameter. photo shows A view of the Mike man-made island from the air, showing the ventilation shaft at the centre.
