Eight Day Sale Opens... Selling up the Home of the Late Sir John Wood - at Bury St. Edmunds...
A sale - which is expected to last for eight days - is in progress at Hengrave Hall, the great Tudor Mansion near Bury St. Edmunds, in which Sir John Wood lived before his death last year at the age of 93. This is the biggest dale of its kind in many years. The fine old mansion contains much fine furnitures, paintings, and two valuable porcelain collections. They are being sold in 2,500 lots... Earlier this year the Mansion was sold to be converted into a Convent School. Sir John Wood purchased the Hall in 1897 with half its contents. Afterwards he regretted not having bought the lot - and spent 50 years tracing and buying back the reminder... At his death his ambition was almost fulfilled... the present Baronet - also Sir John Wood is 64...
