The wild men (Wilden Mannle0 of Obsertdorf/Algau (South Western Germany): The inhabitants of Obserdorf are of the opinion that their wiled men-dance (Wilde Maennle Tanz) is more than 2000 years old. At first you mean that they are exaggerating and merely looking for publicity but when you then are seeing the dancing then you are really of the opinion that the dancing has nothing in Germany to match it. The roots of the dancing are in the early times of our people and that it has something exciting for up people of to-day lies in the fact that it is touching characteristics strings of out being. It is Something strange and the flesh creeps when the figures of the primeval age are jumping in their disguise out of the wings so that the children and adults also are crying loudly. It seems as if the wood and the mountains would be living and this rough personified nature at the same tie also symbolize the worshiping of former times and the excricism of demons.
The pictures show the wild men during their performance which now took place once again after an interval of 13 years. we may have a look behind the "stage" of the wild men when they are dressing each other. They naturally are very thirst and their are drinking out of the large traditional "damper" In their disguise they are terrifying the young girls. During their dance they are swigging wreaths made of branches of firs. Tony Bruchester and Sepp Weller, two famous German ski-jumpers, are the keepers of the large tent where the wild-men's dance was taking place. Father and their sons are having a look at the traditional dance. Though many of the children are only five years old they already prefer to wear the disguises of the wild ~~~~~~~~
