Proud Mum, Ju ju awaits her Whitsun visitors; Ju ju Gorilla is full of joy, not only has she a beautiful 7 week old baby gorilla male but from Whitsun on throughout the summer she will be able to show off baby Kijo to the public. The baby, born in captivity is being breastfed by Juju, something almost unique in the captive state, and it is great credit to Zoo owner John Aspinall has an extraordinary relationship with his animals, communicating with them mentally and physically, and gaining the respect and trust from the fiercest and most timid of the 40 or so species which can be found in Howletts Zoo Park (55 acres). He talks to them and plays gaining a remarkable insight to animal mentality. This year for the first time Howletts Zoo will be open to the public for the entire summer every day until 31st October. has had brief openings for just a few weeks p~~~~. Kijos father Kisoro was invited to stay at Howlett to mate with Ju Ju , he comes from Lincoln Park Zoo, Chicago. The Zoo at Ceksbourne, near Canterbury, ~~~~~~~~~ by John Asphinall in 1959 and now has the largest private collection in the world (Tigers). There are also Elephants ~~~~~Jennifer Johnstone Scott, wife of the head ape keeper at Howletts Zoo, bottle feeds Kimba an even newer arrival 2 weeks old)
