For those worthiest of the worthy - to give them a well earned tittle - those women who get up before dawn cracks the sky and make their way in small groups to 'do' the rooms and corridors of those tens of thousands of offices in the 'big city' were celebrating... In spite of their of 'considerable age, and the never doubted hardness of their toil and the smallness of their rewards, these "Mrs Mopps" - as they have been known since wartime Tommy Handley so christened them - are the cheering and bost hearted of the world's workers.
So, once a year, the charladies of London get together and have their own ball. A cabaret, chosen from their own talent, a skiffle group and other attractions, all help to make the chars night off and out a tremendous success...
She's Got the Real "Sack" Look
Latest in French and Italian fashions inspired this creation worn by "Mrs Mopp" Ivy Francis. Incorporated with a genuine sack and short skirt, is a black headband, black stockings, and long pearl necklace. Final touch are the garters worn just below the knee... Ivy is dancing for her fellow chars at the Charladies Ball...
