Better than a private telegraph: John Swindells' personal pigeon post: Wherever John goes, his pigeons go with him. He and his basket of birds is a familiar sight at the swimming pool.
John comings and going are made known by personal Heralds: There's never any Quarreling in the Swindells household in Posts mouth. Meals are always ready, warn and never spoiled by unexpected delays in arrival of the menfolk. Reason? the personal Pigeon Post, or private communications system run by young John Swidells, builders apprentice of aged sixteen. His hobby is pigeon keeping (he has already a few small prizes and hopes for bigger things later on) But two of his 16 birds are house trainee pets and expert message carries. He takes them with him where ever he goes, and just before leaving for home from work or play, he sends one of them off with a warning of his coming. If there is a sudden change of plan, the other is still in the basket as a reserve. And so, Little Wonder and Little Hope help to maintain an atmosphere sweeter than in many a home where a young man is apt not to tell his mother if he is going to be unexpectedly late or early, and yet always wants his tea and dinner ' on the table.
