Chinese as Subject of instruction": "Up to date" are some of the students at the Ricarda-Huch-high school in Sprendlingen near Frankfurt/Main. Since two weeks ago they are able to learn this difficult eastern asiatic language. Under the instruction of Mr. Chen Yuhhui from Taiwan, who has been living in Germany for 13 years, the interested pupils of the senior class take this matchless opportunity to learn Chinese. According to the teacher the students (generally beginning with the Chinese-lessons in the 9th class) will be able to make conversation in this language in about 3 years - studying three hour a week. They are supposed to be able to read a Chinese newspaper already after two years. By then they should know about 800 (eight hundred) signs. We shall wait and see if Chen's prognosis will come true. His students (34 at the moment) in any case are heart and soul in their studies.
