Description
Mosquitoes Would you be willing to put your arm in a cage of thousands of swarming, hungry mosquitoes? Insectory manager and entomologist Doctor Dan Lawson of the S. C. Johnson Wax OFF! Biting Insect Center in Racine, Wisconsin, does it every week to test the performance of the company's OFF! Insect repellents. The makers of OFF! Raised nearly 1,000,000 mosquitoes at the Center every six weeks to aid in their research. The research is conducted by the OFF! Biting Insect Center is especially important this time of year when millions of mosquitoes are expected to invade our lives public health officials are labeling the summer off '92 "potentially dangerous" due to the mild winter and wet spring seasons that provided ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes, and due to the findings of a particularly aggressive breed of mosquito - the Asian Tiger - that is carrying a rare, deadly strain of encephalitis. Wearing a DEET-containing insect repellent like OFF! Is the best protection against biting insects. Other prevention tips Dr. Lawson recommends: remove standing water from all areas of the home; where light-colored clothing as mosquitoes are attracted to dark colors; stay indoors during twilight and late-night hours when mosquitoes are most active.
