An instructor of the United States Air Force's Aerospace Defense Command (ADC) Life Support School at Perrin Air Force Base, Texas, finishes strapping a parasailing chute onto Astronaut Alan Shepard, America's first man in space. The parasail is used in teaching survival techniques when abandoning an aircraft. Assisting Shepard his Sergeant John Yanger. Forty-nine of America's astronauts have completed the special two-day training course. The training could be instrumental in saving the lives of the astronauts.
