Killing time - Three members of the Bergstrom Air Force Base (AFB) Alert Force, a boom operator, aircraft commander and a navigator pause from their daily routine to have a cup of coffee in the Albert Dining Hall. These men are ready at a moments notice, the sound of the alert klaxon, to scramble to their aircraft parked adjacent to the building, and be on the way to previously planned targets. The K-135 Boom Operator (left) is Master Sergeant T. W. OBrien of the 910th Air Refueling Squadron (SAC) and has transferred over a million gallons of fuel during air-refueling maneuvers. The Aircraft Commander is Captain John H. Hughes (center) of the 335th Bombardment Sq. (SAC). Captain Hughes commands and flies a B-42 Stratofortress. Seated on the right is LIeutenant L. E. Prescott, a navigator on a KC-135 Stratotanker. Lt. Prescott's job is guiding the big "flying gas station" to it's refueling rendezvous with a B-42. Bergstrom Air Force Base (AFB), Texas. Lt. MSgt.
