1954 Press Photo Army Reserve nurses at Fort Sam Houston for training - Texas

Three Houston nurses pose on the steps of their classroom at Fort Sam Houston, where they are serving two weeks active duty as students in the Medical Services School there for Army Reservists. Members of the 415st ARASU Houston Reserve School, they are participating in the Reserve program which allowed them to put into practice the lessons they've learned during their evening meetings at their home stations. Captain Vera O. Burgan, 1102 Loper (left) and Captain Glyds E. Ybanez, 9321 Avenue L, are nurses at the Veterans Hospital in Houston, Texas. !st Lieutenant Martina Hyde (right) 4006 Yorkshire, is a nurse at Methodist Hospital. As part of the their training the Medical students witnessed a demonstration of evacuation of wounded by the use of ambulances and helicopters. A complete Army Field Hospital was constructed and equipped for thorough study. Training films and charts, as well as lectures, in their classrooms brought the Reserve nurses and other medical students up to date on new developments in medicines, and methods of treating the Army's ill and wounded.
