Description
Chancellor A.D. Bruce of the University of Houston, left, smilingly received a check for $3000 from J.H. Twiss, regional director of the Allstate Foundation. The foundation gives more than $100,000 a year throughout the nation for scholarships to train teachers in driver education. Teachers from 23 Houston area high schools will be trained through this program. Only 2 per cent of youngsters who completed driver education courses were involved in traffic accidents during a two-year check made by Traffic Safety Captain H.L. Ellisor of the Houston police department. Dr. Jack Rhodes, university director of drivers education, said only 11 per cent of all high school students can be given proper training because of a lack of facilities, especially training automobiles.
