Largest United States Commercial Ship: The supertanker, Ss Manhattan, is being loaded with 500,000 barrels of fuel oil and gasoline at American Oil Company docks in Texas City. After the cargo is loaded, expected late Thursday, the vessel will set sail for New York City. It is said to be the largest commercial ship ever built in the United States.
