Description
Ship, or pipeline? - The icebreaker-tanker Manhattan is shown during her recent historic voyage through the Northwest Passage across the top of Canada to Point Barrow, Alaska, and the newly discovered North Slope oil fields. Now that the 115,000-ton tanker has proven the trip possible, the problem facing oil firms is whether similar tankers, or a giant pipeline can do the job cheaper. Billions of dollars in costs ride on their decision. S. S. Manhattan.
