1974 Press Photo St. Pius X Byzantine Rite Church Holds Special Mass, Houston

A full house gathered last weekend at the St. Pius X Byzantine Rite Roman Catholic Church, 9100 Meadowshire, Houston, Texas, for a special mass celebrating some renovations at the church. Unlike other Roman Catholic churches in this area, St. Pius X includes icons like those found in Eastern Orthodox churches. (They are located in front of sanctuary.) During the service, Bishop Jaroslav Gabro (seated on throne near acolytes) of the Ukranian Roman Catholic Church of St. Nicholas of Chicago, was celebrant for the mass. Gabro is head of the St. Pius Church here. Because of its Byzantine Rite, the church there is not affiliated directly with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Galveston-Houston.
