A surprise climax to summer school for 8873 youngsters in kindergarten, first and second grades in the Houston school district. Focus on Achievement program at 66 schools was the distribution of paperback books - some 19,000 of them - so the children could start their own personal library. Mrs. Jean Harlan, first grade teacher at Rusk Elementary School, 3802 Garrow, passed out the gifts, paid for with federal funds, to promote appreciation of books by children.
